with the control he has shown

LOS ANGELES -- Even on a night when Clayton Kershaw looked positively human, the Los Angeles Dodgers concocted a way to win. Juan Uribe scored on David Freeses errant throw to the plate in the ninth inning, and the Dodgers evened the Freeway Series with a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. Kershaw recovered from a rocky start to pitch seven innings of seven-hit ball, but he gave up three early runs to the Angels resourceful lineup. The two-time Cy Young winner didnt get a win for just the second time in 12 starts since May. "It was a struggle at first, (and) I really dont know why," Kershaw said. "I was just missing. Theyre a great team, and theyre going to hit mistakes. And sometimes theyre going to hit pitches that arent mistakes." Kershaw still left with a chance for his major league-leading 14th victory until Albert Pujols drove a tying homer into the left-field bullpen against Brian Wilson in the eighth. Uribe hit an early three-run homer for the NL-leading Dodgers. He then singled against Kevin Jepsen (0-1) and eventually scored from third on Andre Ethiers grounder off a low curveball. "Its all about putting a good, quality swing on the ball," Ethier said. Freese was charged with his second throwing error of the night when Chris Iannetta couldnt hang on to the ball for the Angels (67-45), who dropped two games behind Oakland in the AL West. "The ball just didnt have enough pace on it for David to get it and make a throw in one motion," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "On the defensive end, we hurt ourselves. Against a good club, weve got to play a clean game, especially against a guy like Clayton Kershaw." Pujols and Iannetta had RBI doubles for the Angels, who made three errors and got just one hit after the third inning. Hector Santiago yielded five hits and three walks while pitching into the sixth. Kenley Jansen (2-3) struck out the side in the ninth. The Dodgers went ahead on an unearned run without a hit in the sixth. Matt Kemp reached on Freeses first throwing error and eventually scored on Scott Van Slykes fly. STAR VS STAR: Mike Trout went 2 for 3 while facing Kershaw in the regular season for the first time in the Southern California stars careers. "I love watching a guy like that," said Trout, who has a 20-game hitting streak in interleague play. "Its pretty cool facing him." Trout beat out an infield single in the first inning, and he laced a double down the line on the first pitch of the third. Kershaw, who hadnt pitched against the Angels since 2011, struck out Trout on three pitches in the fifth. "Im not going to talk about individual at-bats," Kershaw said. "I mean, hes a great hitter and he got two hits tonight, so tip your cap." ALBERTS SHOT: Pujols eighth-inning homer was his 513th, passing Eddie Mathews and Ernie Banks for 21st place in baseball history. The shot was his first since July 9, ending a 21-game drought. TRAINERS ROOM: Angels: Left-hander Tyler Skaggs is resting his strained left forearm before the team decides on a rehabilitation plan. Dodgers: Reliever Paco Rodriguez went on the disabled list with a strained shoulder, and the Dodgers recalled Pedro Baez from Triple-A Albuquerque. ON DECK: Angels: Matt Shoemaker (9-3, 4.09 ERA) takes the mound when the Freeway Series shifts to Anaheim. The surprising right-hander has won four of five starts. Dodgers: Dan Haren (8-9, 4.76 ERA) pitched for the Angels from 2010-12, but hasnt faced them since 2007. Luke Kuechly Jersey . Rookie Christian Vazquez got his first three major league hits and drove in three runs, while David Ortiz had three RBIs to break open the game in the sixth inning and lead Boston over the Houston Astros 8-3. Authentic Carolina Panthers Jerseys . "If we could score a six in every game, obviously I would be pretty excited," Jones said. "Its a long week but a short week. Its a pretty short round robin from what were used to so you dont want to get behind the eight ball early.Adil Rashids improved form offered captain Alastair Cook some consolation in the wake of Englands 246-run defeat to India. Rashid took six wickets in Visakhapatnam, to go with his seven-for in the first Test in Rajkot, though it couldnt prevent England from slipping to a 1-0 series deficit as they were bowled out for 158 on the final day. India v England: Story of 2012 On Englands last trip to India in 2012, Alastair Cook led his side to victory from 1-0 down... He has made huge strides, said Cook. It is just so encouraging to see someone really fulfilling their potential. Obviously Rash can bowl - hes a really good bowler, in fact - but hes starting to believe it a bit more in Test cricket now.I think Im right in saying that if he takes one more wicket, hell have as many as Shane Warne ever got in a series in India. So he is doing some good stuff.I have been really impressed with the control he has shown. One thing we said after Bangladesh was that we didnt have that control from our spinners. Adil Rashids control has improved since the Bangladesh tour, says Alastair Cook He has taken that to heart, gone away and worked incredibly hard - Saqlain Mushtaq coming in as a coach has been really good for him, and all of the spinners, in fact. The full tosses and long-hops he had been bowling have disappeared, and thats huge credit to him.Reflecting further on Englands defeat in the second Test, Cook rued losing an important toss and said a couple of poor sessions cost them. Watch the best of the action as England slipped to defeat on day five of the second Test And looking ahead to the third Test in Mohali on Saturday, Cook wouldnt be drawn on whether Stuart Broad would be fit enough to play, but did praise his fast bowlers efforts in playing through the pain barrier to take 4-33 in Indias second innings.ddddddddddddIt was a good toss for India to win, added Cook. We all saw that it was the easiest to bat on the first day, theres no doubt about that.In India you need to score first-innings runs, and we needed at least parity in that first innings, so it was disappointing to lose five wickets late on day two, you cant afford to have a poor session like that. But from then on, we showed a lot of character and fight - Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes partnership on the third morning, our efforts with the ball in the third innings, and then to bat 100 overs in the fourth. The guys have shown a lot of character so far on this tour, and were not far away. Stuart Broad was back among the wickets in the second Test despite a foot injury (Credit: AFP) Full credit to Broady, in particular, as I think his injury is a lot sorer than he showed everyone in that India second innings.Tearing a tendon in your toe doesnt sound particularly pleasant, so to bowl like he did was a huge credit to his resilience and his toughness. Thats probably why he has played 100 Tests.Well see how his injury settles over the next 24 hours. The conditions sometimes suit seamers in Mohali, but I doubt were going to see too much grass on the pitch, if Im honest.Hopefully we can go there and put India under some pressure; get the first of a couple of wins to get back in the series.
